We are seeking undergraduate students in Sitka interested in marine research

The project, “Nutritional quality and composition of Macrocystis pyrifera at the northern end of its range”, will provide an opportunity for 3 undergraduate students in Sitka to:

– Learn about kelp forest ecosystems and coastal marine food webs

– Take charge of their own scientific inquiry through sample collections, data analysis and interpretation of results

– Learn and apply field sampling techniques using snorkel and/or scuba

– Gain boating and safety-at-sea skills

– Be a part of a collaborative team of students and marine researchers

All project sampling expenses will be covered, along with the cost for students to attend a national conference to present their work (Alaska Marine Science Symposium, January 2019).

We are looking for motivated students living in Sitka that are interested in science, gaining field sampling skills and that can work independently. Our ideal candidate will be in Sitka and available during 2018 and 2019.
