Volunteer at SSSC | Wednesday, April 3rd at 5:30pm
Want to get involved with the Science Center but don’t know where to start? This meeting is for you: join us on Wednesday, April 3 at 5:30pm to learn about and sign up for volunteer opportunities within every department of the Science Center. Our variety of volunteer opportunities will suit many interests and schedules.
Writing Our World | April 4, 11, 18, & 25 Thursdays from 5:30 to 7pm
Do you have stories about your encounters with the natural world? If you live in Sitka, it’s hard not to. Every Thursday in April, join us for a free, beginner-friendly writing workshop. We’ll tell our own true stories through improvisation, drawing, journaling, and writing. Come to Writing Our Worlds on April 4, 11, 18, and 25, 5:30-7:00pm to join Sitka’s rich web of artists and storytellers.
Fab Friday: Codemakers | Fridays 2 pm to 4 pm starting January 24th, 2024
Become part of the Science Center’s team of codemakers, puzzle masters, and logic wizards! This free club is a space for Blatchley Middle School students to explore coding and play with logic puzzles. We will eat snacks, play outside, and create wacky and wonderful coding creations (with Minecraft)! Students will be transported from BMS to SSSC after the bell. Pick-up is 4PM in front of SSSC.
Science of Bookmaking | Thursday, from 3pm to 5pm
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Vroom-vroom! Choo-choo! Plane noise-plane noise! What could be more fun than exploring the fast and exciting world of transportation? Join us at SSSC to learn all about automobile maintenance basics, build your own solar car, experiment with twisting and turning model trains, and work as a team to assemble an RC aircraft! Transportation is available from Blatchley Middle School to the Science Center and snacks are also provided. This is a free program, but space is limited.

Sitka Sprouts | Every Tuesday throughout the school year from 10:30 to 11:30am
- Plant the Seeds of Science in the next generation! Sprouts is a free, weekly preschool program that takes place every Tuesday morning from 10:30 – 11:30am at the Sitka Sound Science Center during the fall, winter, and spring months. This program is designed for children ages 3-5 years old and their parents. Each session begins with a story followed by a variety of hands-on crafts and activities related to the theme of the story. There is a new theme every week, so no worries if you miss a session. No registration is necessary, just stop on by!
