As part of a future rehabilitation and renovation project, the Sitka Sound Science Center is in search of photographs of the historic Mill Building – the building adjacent to the Sage Building which houses SSSC retail and Ludwig’s chowder cart along with hatchery and science equipment.

Please share your photographs that show the building’s exterior or interior, students using the building or any photographs that show the building in use. The building was built in 1939, burned down in 1940 and rebuilt in 1941. It was used to saw lumber for boat building, a skill studied by Sheldon Jackson students and others.  Later when Sheldon Jackson became a four year college, it was used for other science research and education purposes. Please bring or email scanned  photographs to the Science Center. Contact Lisa Busch: 907 747 8878 ext 5 or lbusch@sitkascience.org
